He said that the man was a Templar initiate before the Wardens recruited him, and he never wanted to be a Templar in the first place."

That was a good Templar in Anders's mind. One who saw the Order for what it was and took the first opportunity to get out. The Grey Wardens actually did fight evil in the name of protecting Thedas.
