Fear and Obsession

Gotham City. Home to vigilantes, master criminals, and a local mob. Not a pleasant place to live, with people constantly living in fear that the likes of the Joker or Poison Ivy, for example, might try some scheme to kill the citizens.

None, however, were more feared than Jonathan Crane. Better known as The Scarecrow. The Scarecrow wasn't so interested in money or material possessions, no, he just wanted to exploit the most primal of emotions: fear. Fear kept society in line, fear guided humans through life, fear was power.

The Scarecrow stood on a balcony, looking down at Gotham and imagining the people. Living their lives, unaware that the Scarecrow was looming above them.

Doctor Crane had made his headquarters in an abandoned mansion up in the hills overlooking the rest of the city. The owner had fled the house a month ago, claiming that there were monsters in the walls. Amazing what a little fear toxin in a person's shampoo could do.

Scarecrow heard a henchman approach. "Hey, boss, there's someone at the door for ya'." At Crane's suspicious look, the goon added, "He don't look like one of Batman's."

Crane just kept giving him the evil eye, before turning back to the view and saying, "Bring him to me."
